This solo draws upon autobiographical experiences of social and psychological isolation due to visual impairment. Jake Cann creates an alter-ego character and subjects his corporeal identity to a cyclical process of erasure, mutilation and transformation, using notions of the grotesque, to challenge and question our relation to the ‘outsider’ or the ‘other’. Acoustic sound, film and simple props counterpoint the razor sharp stillness of actions, paying homage to the Viennese Actionists, Kafka, and the surreal.
