2025 Award Winners  with ALPD Chair Johanna Town

The ALPD is involved in a number of Awards to recognise the art and contribution of Lighting and Video designers in various forms of Live Performance as well as production electrics, and to assist with its aims to further the art and appreciation of creative design and raise the professional status of lighting, video design and production electrics as part of the creative process.

The ALPD Awards for Excellence

The Awards for Excellence are awarded annually in three categories:

  • The Michael Northen Award in Lighting Design - open for applications from students or recent graduates who have studied in the UK and demonstrated strong, imaginative and creative Lighting Design. The awards are also open to Affiliate members of the ALPD.
  • The Fred Foster Award for Excellence in Production Electrics, sponsored by ETC
  • The Anne Valentino Award for Excellence in Programming, sponsored by ETC

The Fred Foster and Anne Valentino Awards are nominated Awards.  

Lightmongers Award for Entertainment Lighting

Lightmongers Award for Entertainment Lighting is an annual award for those who are based in the UK, at the start of their career and has been set up as part of the support for education and training in the field of entertainment lighting, in conjunction with The Worshipful Company of Lightmongers

The Lightmongers is one of the modern Livery companies within the City of London. Being a modern company has all of its members involved in the lighting industry through engineering / manufacture, design, architecture, electrical installation and distribution. The two of the main objectives are to foster the art and science of lighting and to encourage invention and imagination in the use of light through annual awards. The Lightmongers are pleased to have worked with the ALPD in creating an award which will recognise the work of new designers in the field of live performance entertainment lighting.

The Profile Awards

The Profile Awards have been created and are coordinated by Durham and Jennie Marenghi in association with the ALPD, the ABTT and the STLD; the Awards recognise lighting design excellence in Theatre and Television in the UK and the third iteration of the event will be held at the Alexandra Palace Theatre on the 4th of June 2026.

Fellowships

Fellowships may be awarded to any persons who in the opinion of the Executive have rendered significant service to the technical aspects of the arts of lighting.
