ALPD Website User Guide

Welcome to your exclusive members’ area.

As ever, you have the benefit of ALPD membership to advertise yourself in the directory amongst the community of Performance Lighting Professionals and publicise your shows, pictures, contact information and professional (or other) profile.

Follow the instructions below to log in and get the advantage of up to date web presence, all as part of your ALPD membership fee.

This site is for members and is a place to promote yourself and network, but also a way for the public and those interested in membership a view into what we do, and what our members can offer them.

You can download a pdf document of this page via the link at the top of the page.

Key Features of the site:

  • Responsive screen layouts for phones, tablets, laptops (and control consoles!)
  • Interactive Directory and ‘Find a Lighting Professional’ Search Facility by work, location, experience, availability, etc. to assist members’ business development.
  • Full online signup for all membership types and single or recurring subscription payment facilities (via PayPal or GoCardless).
  • Enhanced member profile pages.

Log-in Procedure

  • When visiting the site, go to www.thealpd.org.uk and click the ‘Log In’ button at the top right of the Home page.
  • Enter the emal address which you use for the ALPD.
  • An email with a login number will be sent to that email address.

Once Logged In

We do advise members to check that their own details are correct, especially which contact details are visible on the public side of the site and listed in the directory. Also, it would be nice if, once logged-in, that you click ‘My ALPD’ and upload a photo of yourself.   This appears on your profile page and, whilst the default icon is very nice…it isn’t you!

Remember to click the ‘SAVE’ button at the bottom of every page to update the content before navigating away from it.

My ALPD

  • Helps you bring your profile and preferences up to date and add up to 5 pictures of your work.
  • It’s worth completing your profile so all members have an equally good web presence.
  • You’ll also find access to the Members’ section of the website from this page where you can check the list of ‘Members’ Benefits’, access various documents and guides in the ‘ALPD Papers’ and access past editions of the Members’ magazine Focus.
  • Embed one of two ALPD Badge widget codes in to your own website. They can be found by going to ‘My ALPD homepage’ and scrolling down. Anyone clicking the links will then be directed to either the ALPD homepage or your personal ALPD Member pages.
  • For social media links, each page footer has the popular media buttons and an RSS feed for ALPD news. Recent forum posts are also shown on the Homepage.

My Contact Details and Preferences

  • Manage your visibility settings to Public, Members or Private for your whole profile on the site itself and those contact details that are shared on the website.
  • Set which details are to be included in the Members' annual directory
  • Select which email bulletins you receive - ALPD bulletins are sub-divided to your membership category in some cases. Email addresses are never passed on to third parties.
  • Opt in or out to receiving postal communications from our company members and industry relevant partners. We do not share your details unless you have opted in. We NEVER sell our mailing list details.
  • Update your postal address so that you can receive a hard copy of Focus and membership reminders from us. You can also opt out of receiving any postal items from us, which means you will need to access Focus directly from the website. We do not email it to members.

My Personal Profile

  • Enter your education and any union memberships you have.
  • Add a company name or website URL for your profile.

My Biography

Please note that if you have selected to have a publicly visible profile on the website, you will need to complete the Biography section before you appear in the listings.

  • This is your chance to outline your career, experience and areas of interest. It forms the front page of your directory profile for non-members to read if publicly visible. Those with members only visible accounts can of course still network with other members.
  • Professional or Affiliate members are listed on the public directory accessed from the homepage.
  • Individuals who are not Professional or Affiliate Members can still have a public profile, but you will need to direct non-members directly to it by pointing them to www.thealpd.org.uk/[yourname]
  • You can now upload a PDF version of your CV and it will appear as a downloadable file under the text on your biography page. Log in, go to Biography and CV option on MY ALPD drop down menu and upload the file you want.

My Professional Profile

  • Highlight the areas you have work experience, where you are willing to work and whether you speak any languages. This information forms an integral part of the 'Find a lighting Professional' search function, so you should ensure that you have checked and updated the information here. We have now expanded this section to incorporate those non-lighting designer disciplines that the membership now covers.
  • There is now a specific Education section on the experience page (Professional Profile). So if you have experience as a lecturer, running workshops or training sessions, you can add these to your profile.

My Membership

  • See what you’ve paid or owe for this year’s subscription, or whether you have updated your standing order.
  • Pay online or set up a recurring PayPal debit or a GoCardless mandate.
  • There is a very easy-to-use join-up form, so encourage your colleagues to join the ALPD too!

My Shows

  • Allows you to add, edit or update a show, its creative team, dates, photos or press quotes. This information appears interactively in the diary, directory, search facilities and gallery etc.
  • Choose from an extended list of roles available for shows in your portfolio. Fill in the LD, designer and so on, so that all that data is connected.
  • There is also a button for a show that is ongoing, or in repertoire that has no end date.

Configure My Slideshows

  • Set the focal point of each of your uploaded photos to maximize the impact of the image.
  • Manage which images appear on your directory listing and individual production slideshows.
