As an industry, we are finding that more and more of our
customers are wanting to ensure that the equipment they invest in is as
environmentally-friendly as possible. This is to not only help fulfil an
organisation’s green policy, such as reducing the amount of energy consumed,
but also ensure bigger savings are made in the long run. As such, our Business
Development Manager Jonathan Haynes has looked at what manufacturers are doing
to ensure their products are as sustainable as possible and what customers need
to do if they wish to ‘turn green’.
As a company, WL is always considering the environmental
impact of our work and the ways in which we can become increasingly more
sustainable in our operation. We’ve engaged the services of Green Element, an
environmental management consultant, and are always trying to ensure that the
manufacturers we work with share the same values as ours when it comes to being
environmentally-conscious.
A great example of this is ETC; a manufacturer that creates lighting products with sustainability and
lower electrical consumption in mind. From daylight
harvesting and motion sensors in architectural-lighting systems, to low-wattage
lamps and reduced field-lumen output in Source Four® fixtures, ETC’s equipment
is among the “greenest” on the market. A lot of our work with ETC is
working with clients who want to move over from incandescent fixtures to LED.
This is perhaps one of the most effective ways in which a venue can reduce its
energy consumption, with the average saving being an incredible 70%. Not only
that, but a lot of these fixtures require less maintenance, less attention by
staff and have extended warranties of up to ten years which all ultimately
results in long-term savings.
What’s also great about
ETC is that, for those who already have an existing inventory of Source Four
fixtures, they don’t expect you to simple throw these out and completely start
anew. Instead, they can just invest in the Source 4WRD which is an LED retrofit
which turns any full-sized tungsten Source Four into an energy-saving LED
fixture. This is a fantastic solution for those slowly making the move over to
LED and we have invested specifically in this product which can now be
purchased from ShopWL.
Alongside this, WL is able to work with organisations and venues to predict the energy savings and carbon footprint reductions they would make if they were to invest in greener technology. As a company, we are in the unique position of being able to show our customers the exact impact investing in sustainable equipment would have. Whilst it is obviously very commendable to use technology that is environmentally friendly, we appreciate that many customers, before committing to a purchase, will want to know the exact impact this will have; something we are able to offer. Similarly, we are able to offer software systems post investment which allow customers to monitor every watt these use, giving them real-time energy-usage reports.
