PLASA Focus: Leeds 2015 announces outstanding seminar programme

This year’s PLASA Focus: Leeds 2015, held at the Royal Armouries, Leeds on May 12th and 13th, has announced a seminar programme that will continue to make this year’s show an essential event for the UK’s entertainment technology industry.

“The seminar programme is always an important part of any PLASA Focus,” says Christopher Toulmin, Director of Events Division at PLASA. “As our industry continues to mature, education plays a vital role and it is part of our mission to ensure that we provide interesting, relevant topics for our sessions. This year, we have curated an outstanding programme, which addresses some of today’s hot topics.”

Highlights of the two-day seminar programme, which will be held in the Bury Theatre, include:

• Tuesday 12th May, 12.00: tvONE’s Mark Trevena will host Eye Catching Video for Events – Creating, Transporting and Displaying. This hour-long session will look at the various video options available for today’s events industry, how to get it to where it is needed and then create eye-catching displays.

• Tuesday 12th May, 13.15: Sound Intelligibility, Quality and Impact – design, verification and operation, will see Jim Cousins from sound system and venue consultancy, Sound Improvement Services, explaining how to apply a knowledge of basic physics, the ear-brain system and common sense to sound system design.

• Tuesday 12th May, 14.30: Justin Grealy from Soulsound, talks about how the relative purity of the female voice affords the FOH engineer much more of a blank canvas in terms of both processing and effects in How to Get the Best from a Live Female Voice.

• Wednesday 13th May, 14.15: The highlight of Wednesday’s sessions, hosted by the Association of Lighting Designers, is How many lights do you need? – The work of the lighting designer on a budget.

“I am really excited about Soulsound's seminar line-up at PLASA Focus Leeds on May 12th this year,” comments the company’s Darryn de la Soul. “The Bury Theatre is the perfect environment to put on a bit of a show, so we are going to! Not only do we have three top-quality, truly educational seminars, we are responding to public demand by including video into our normal audio-only line up.

“To keep it rock ’n’ roll, we will be using live video throughout Justin Grealy’sHow to Get the Best from a Live Female Voice demonstration and bring the two worlds together. Jim Cousins and John Newsham will be applying a knowledge of basic physics, the ear-brain system and common sense to sound system design in the Sound Intelligibility, Quality and Impact – design, verification and operation session, whilst Mark Trevena of tvONE opens with Eye Catching Video for Events – Creating, Transporting and Displaying at midday on the Tuesday.

“We are hugely looking forward to the day!”

“At every PLASA event, we aim to further our attendees’ knowledge,” concludes Christopher. “This, coupled with the opportunity to experience the very latest in technical equipment on the show floor, means that PLASA Focus: Leeds 2015 will offer a complete and valuable experience.”
