On Sunday March 13th 2011, the leading lights of London’s theatre gathered to discover the winners of this year’s prestigious Olivier Awards – and will do so under lighting supplied by London’s leading entertainment lighting supplier, White Light.
Presented annually by the Society of London Theatre, the Laurence Olivier Awards are presented to shows opening in the West End between January 1st and December 31st each year. This year, the awards are establishing a higher profile with a new website, a return to television – and a change of venue from a hotel ballroom to London’s largest stage, the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
The team behind the new staging include producer Julian Stoneman, production manager Lee Batty, designer Morgan Large and lighting designer Ben Cracknell. White Light is supplying Cracknell with a rig centred around eighteen of Martin’s dramatic MacIII spotlights, with their high light output, low running noise, spectacular zoom and wide selection of beam effects. The fixtures are proving increasingly popular with lighting designers, with White Light also supplying the fixture to the new production of The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium.
In addition to the MacIIIs and the rig for the show itself, White Light will supply lighting for the red carpet walk-in to the show and, working with drapes specialist Blackout Ltd, starcloths to dress the stage.
White Light will also, of course, be rooting for all four of the lighting nominees – Neil Austin, Paule Constable, Mark Henderson and Hugh Vanstone, all four of which the company has worked on projects with this year – and all of this year’s other nominees.
